Large area continuous multilayer graphene membrane for water desalination

چکیده
This manuscript reports the preparation of a large area (84 cm2) desalination membrane based on multilayers (11 nm thickness) B,N-codoped defective graphene. The process consists coating porous ceramic ?-Al2O3 support (100 pore size) with continuous nanometric (50 nm) chitosan film containing adsorbed (NH4)3BO3. Subsequent pyrolysis in presence hydrogen converts into multilayer partial removal B and N dopant atoms by H2 during causes generation subnanometric pores due to atom vacancy, as determined control experiments absence this gas. A NaCl KCl efficiency from brackish water higher than 95% for permeate flux 24.3 L m?2 h?1 at 10 bars were achieved.

Multilayer Nanoporous Graphene Membranes for Water Desalination.
While single-layer nanoporous graphene (NPG) has shown promise as a reverse osmosis (RO) desalination membrane, multilayer graphene membranes can be synthesized more economically than the single-layer material. In this work, we build upon the knowledge gained to date toward single-layer graphene to explore how multilayer NPG might serve as a RO membrane in water desalination using classical mol...
متن کاملWater desalination across nanoporous graphene.
We show that nanometer-scale pores in single-layer freestanding graphene can effectively filter NaCl salt from water. Using classical molecular dynamics, we report the desalination performance of such membranes as a function of pore size, chemical functionalization, and applied pressure. Our results indicate that the membrane's ability to prevent the salt passage depends critically on pore diam...
متن کاملNanoporous organosilica membrane for water desalination.
Nanoporous organosilica membranes are successfully coated on porous alumina tubes and tested for desalination via membrane distillation. The membranes produced pure water (up to 13 kg m(-2) h(-1)) across an extreme range of salt concentrations (10-150 g L(-1) NaCl) at moderate temperatures (≤60 °C) without exhibiting the characteristic flux decay of competing materials.

Water is the most common substance in the world, however, 97% is seawater and only 3% is fresh water. The availability of water for human consumption is decreasing due to increasing the environmental pollution. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), about 2.4 billion people do not have access to basic sanitation facilities, and more than one billion people do not have access to safe ...
متن کاملA Novel Nanofiltration Membrane Prepared with PAMAM and Graphene oxide for Desalination
Nanofiltration is increasingly gaining attention in many separation and treatment processes such as water softening, color removal and separation of medicines. Nanofiltration membranes are often negatively charged, displaying separation characteristics in the intermediate range between reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration. In this research, a novel nanofiltration membrane prepared with poly(amid...
